Schools in Chandler, AZ: CUSD Earns an "A" Grade

Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) is a fast growing public school district that includes the majority of the city of Chandler, as well as portions of Gilbert, AZ and Queen Creek. The school district includes 29 elementary schools, seven junior high schools, and five high schools, as of the 2015-2016 school year. The district serves more than 41,000 students and encompasses 80 square miles.

CUSD has an open enrollment policy, which enables Arizona students to attend public schools outside their attendance area. An annual open enrollment application must be submitted. Applications are handled on a first come, first serve basis and prioritized. Thanks to the open enrollment policy and booming city population, Chandler Unified is one of the fastest-growing school districts in the state. CUSD Grade “A” District: Core Knowledge Program, Self-Contained Gifted Program, and International Baccalaureate Program

Chandler Unified prides itself on a proven track record of success that includes a competitive teacher-student ratio and state-of-the-art technology integration in every classroom. CUSD has earned Arizona A+ honors or U.S. Blue Ribbon recognition 70 times since 1983. The district has earned an “A” grade for all four years of the Arizona LEARNS letter grade accountability program. All five of CUSD’s high schools also earned an “A” grade and CUSD is home to 11 of the top 100 best-performing schools in the state of Arizona. CUSD is the only district to have multiple schools rank in the top 20 when comparing all charter and non-charter schools.

In addition to earning an “A” ranking, CUSD has been rated the top “K-12 school district” in Arizona for the past two years, according to Niche rankings. As of the 2014-2015 school year, Chandler, AZ students earned $92.6 million in scholarships, completed 97,119 hours of service learning, and earned 25,479 hours of college credit, including AP, dual credit, and college-level testing.

CUSD is a premiere “district of choice” and academic achievement is a high priority. The district offers a number of personalized learning experiences to best meet student needs. These learning experiences include self-contained gifted programs (“Chandler Academically Talented Students”), traditional academies, the core knowledge program, and single-gender classrooms. Honors classes, Advanced Placement (AP) courses for college credit, and the International Baccalaureate Program are all offered. As of the 2015-2016 school year, the district also offers a Spanish Immersion program, elite performance academy, and a Mandarin Immersion program.

CUSD’s mission is to develop students that are problem solvers, engaged learners, critical and creative thinkers, value diversity, and are ethical and service-oriented. Chandler Unified School District has a comprehensive 10-year plan – “Journey 2020” – in place designed to provide every student with a pathway to success.
