A network of trails crisscrosses the park providing opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Hiking trails located in the park include the Little Leaf Trail (0.7 miles), Stargazer Trail (0.8 miles), Hedgehog Trail (1 mile), Moonlight Trail (1.3 miles), and San Tan Trail (6.4 miles). The Gold Mine Trail (2.5 miles) allows you to hike to the highest point in the park. 

In nearby Phoenix, you can hike around the red butte formations in Papago Park, including the iconic Hole-in-the-Rock, featuring the main chamber that looks out over nearby lagoons and the distant downtown skyline. The trails in Papago Park are typically smooth with little elevation, providing easy access for walking, hiking, mountain biking or trail running. Another great hiking destination is Camelback Mountain located in the Echo Canyon Recreation Area between the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix and Paradise Valley. Two difficult trails ascend 1,420 feet to a summit resembling the hump of a camel's back, affording 360-degree views of the surrounding city. Camelback offers some of the best urban hiking in the U.S. and attracts over 300,000 hikers every year.

Golfers can choose from several top-rated golf courses in the immediate area including Las Colinas Golf Club, Apache Sun Golf Club, and Encanterra Golf Course along with over 200 additional golf courses scattered throughout the Phoenix metro area.

  • Encanterra Country Club is located in nearby San Tan Valley and features a private 18-hole desert/traditional golf course designed by golf architect Tom Lehman, with stunning views of The Superstition and San Tan Mountains. The large, undulating greens are paired with strategically placed bunkers creating some interesting challenges.
