Remaining Optimistic During the Coronaviris Crisis

There’s no denying that the coronavirus pandemic is changing the way we live. The world is complicated and connected and the coronavirus will not be the final pandemic we experience. But hopefully, the lessons we learn at this unprecedented time in history and the need for preparation will stay with us long after we are on the other side of this pandemic.

This is a time when we look for courage and good judgment from our leaders to guide us through this crisis to the other side. And many of America’s leaders are demonstrating that kind of leadership. Despite empty shelves at the grocery store due to panic buying, our nation’s food supply system is fully functioning as is our electrical grid and the other resources needed to live well in our homes.

This is a moment when we can take solace in the courage and compassion we see throughout our community and an opportunity to rise to the occasion and act with equal courage and compassion. Although the number of available healthcare workers, hospital beds, and respirators is much lower than the number of coronavirus patients in need, we see those on the frontlines bravely stepping up and even risking their own lives to save the lives of others, day in and day out.

As countries deal with and respond to the biggest threat to life in peacetime, doctors, nurses, social care workers, volunteers and those not putting themselves first - but those in need, are our heroes and deserve our recognition and gratitude. Scientists from around the world are also working closely to find a vaccine and cure, while national differences are being overlooked as we fight a common enemy.

Even in the most severe crisis that humanity has known in the past, there were glimmers of hope, small bright-spots, and reasons for optimism. We have to remember that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. When the challenges of dealing with the spread of COVID-19 are behind us, we will go back to our regular lives along with some hard-earned lessons that will have the potential to lead humanity as a whole towards a better future.

For those of us in family lockdown, now is the opportunity to spend quality time with our loved ones. Take the time to hug your kids or partner. Please remember to stay home and follow social distancing mandates put in place to keep you, your family, and your community safe.

Despite the many challenges we are currently being faced with, many Americans are still optimistic about buying a home, which bodes well for the housing market. According to Realtor.com, between March 23 and March 26, real estate resource Point2Home surveyed close to 3000 prospective homebuyers to better understand how they were feeling about the home buying process during the coronavirus outbreak.

According to the survey, 55% of respondents said they are still looking to buy a home, regardless of the current climate. Overall, 34% of respondents said they are determined to buy a home in the next six months, and 25% said they plan to buy over the next year. The 45 to 54 age-group was the most optimistic about buying at this time while people 65 and older showed a bit more reluctance.

If you’ve been searching for a home, the coronavirus doesn’t have to end your search. Thanks to technology like guided video tours and e-signing contracts, you can find your dream home and also keep yourself, your loved ones, and your community safe by practicing social distancing. And, if you’re looking to sell, just know that there are plenty of people out there still looking to buy.
