Parks in Chandler are broken down into four categories: regional (the largest), followed by community parks, neighborhood parks, and special use parks. The city has one regional park, Tumbleweed Park along with eleven community parks: Arrowhead Meadows Park, Chuparosa Park, Espee Park, Mesquite Groves Park Site, Lantana Ranch Park Site, Pima Park, Snedigar Sportsplex, Veterans Oasis Park, and Nozomi Park. In addition, residents enjoy fifty-four neighborhood parks, and twenty-three special use parks and facilities. Below is a list of the 5 best parks (including special use facilities) in Chandler including a brief description of park amenities and location.

#1 - Paseo Vista Recreation Area

Paseo Vista Recreation Area, located at 3850 South McQueen Road in Chandler, features a dog park, a disc golf course (18 holes and 4,100 feet long), an archery range, a children’s playground, picnic areas, and more than a mile of walking trails. Built atop the former City Landfill, most of the park’s amenities are not visible from the streets below. Chandler residents who make the walk, ride or drive to the top of the hill will appreciate and enjoy the recreation area. The recreation area includes one of four dog parks in Chandler. Archery classes are offered through the Chandler Recreation Division. The children’s play area includes climbing rocks, swings, slides, a jungle gym made of cables, and an educational “trash wall.” Paseo Vista Recreation Area also boasts 360-degree views of the East Valley from the 40-foot-high lookout point accessible by a curving walking path.

#2 - Veterans Oasis Park

Veterans Oasis Park is located at the intersection of Lindsay and Chandler Heights Roads in Chandler. Opening in 2008, The 113-acre Sonoran Desert landscape is a riparian and wetland habitat for the community. Seventy-eight acres of the park is designed for groundwater recharge and wetlands. Veteran's Oasis Park features four and a half miles of trails, wildlife viewing areas, ramadas and picnic areas, a butterfly and hummingbird habitat, an outdoor amphitheater, a learning-oriented playground, a 5-acre “Community fishing” lake, a Solar System Walk, equestrian trails, and interpretive signs and exhibits. The 5-acre lake at Veterans Oasis Park is 12 feet deep and is stocked with a variety of fish such as rainbow trout, catfish, bluegill, hybrid sunfish and, and largemouth bass. There are limitations on fish, which are posted daily at the park. The Environmental Education Center serves as a gateway to Veteran's Oasis park and is focused on nature-based programs about conservation, local plants and animals, and understanding and enjoying the Sonoran Desert. The EEC offers a variety of programming for all ages through art, science, and fitness. The Center includes an environmentally-friendly gift shop and a reptile exhibit.  Veterans Oasis Park is a great spot to spend the day with family.  

#3 - Desert Breeze Park

Desert Breeze Park is located southwest of Ray Road and McClintock Drive on Desert Breeze Boulevard. Designed in 1996 by Landscape Architect Dennis Peitz, park amenities include a lake, The Desert Breeze Hummingbird Habitat, large shade trees, a splash pad, sports courts, fields, walking trails, and a children’s playground. The Hummingbird Habitat was designed by Landscape Architect Dennis Peltz and features over fifty varieties of water-efficient plants that attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and other wildlife. The habitat is a great place to learn about desert plants and tours are offered throughout the year. Also located within the park is Desert Breeze Lake, stocked with Rainbow trout, Largemouth bass, Sunfish, Catfish, and Tilapia (daily bag and possession limits are posted). In addition, visitors can enjoy a three-quarter-mile tour of the park on an open-air train pulled by an 1880's replica engine. There’s also a delightful Allan Herschell Carousel from the 1950s and a splash pad for the little ones to cool off.

#4 - Tumbleweed Park

Tumbleweed Park is a 205-acre regional park located at 745 E Germann Rd. The park includes the Tumbleweed Recreation Center, Tumbleweed Tennis Center, Tumbleweed Ranch, and Playtopia. The 62,000 square-foot Tumbleweed Recreation Center is the focal point of the park and includes a fitness center, indoor track, gymnasium, 2 racquetball courts, exercise and dance studios, classrooms, and more. Tumbleweed Tennis Center is a 3,000 Sq.ft. facility featuring 15 lighted tennis courts, tennis lessons, leagues, tournaments, special workshops, and drop-in play. Tumbleweed Ranch includes a collection of historic homes, buildings, and farm equipment where visitors can learn about Chandler's agricultural past and how early farming families lived and farmed in a desert environment. Playtopia is a free, 2.5-acre playground and picnic section in Tumbleweed Park, featuring several play zones with themes based on Chandler’s heritage. Playtopia inspires endless imaginative play, attracting families from all over town. Tumbleweed Park hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, including the annual Ostrich Festival, the Fourth of July Fireworks Festival, and others.  

#5 - Snedigar Recreation Center and Sportsplex

The 90-acre Snedigar Recreation Center and Sportsplexlocated just south of Ocotillo Road off of Basha Road in Chandler. Amenities at the 90-acre sports complex include four softball fields, two professional-sized baseball fields, four Little League baseball fields, twelve soccer fields, a full-sized cricket field, children’s playground equipment, a bark park for dogs, picnic pavilions and a recreation center. The 9,000 square foot recreation center provides a variety of classes and programs, special events, and other services. The 35,000 square foot Snedigar Skate Park is one of the top-rated skate parks in the country. A free non-supervised facility, the skate park features decks, blocks, concrete bowls, and metal rails, attracting some of the best skateboarders in the world to south Chandler. In addition, Snedigar Sportsplex Park has a fully fenced Bark Park where you can bring your dog for some exercise and fun (closed for maintenance on Wednesdays 6 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.).
