First of all, there's the weather. Chandler boasts almost 300 sunny days per year, an average temperature of 72 degrees and a pleasantly dry climate, making this city in the scenic Sonoran Desert a haven for those who love the outdoors. No matter what time of year, there's always something to do! Golfers can play the links on more than a dozen courses. Families can spend time in one of the city's more than 50 public parks. And there's always hiking, camping, tubing, fishing and other recreational opportunities in nearby Tonto National Forest and the Salt River Recreation Area.
Of course, Chandler has many cultural opportunities, as well. Known as the cultural center of the East Valley, the city is home to a thriving arts community that revolves around the award-winning programming at the Chandler Center for the Arts. The streets of Chandler's historic downtown are lined with boutiques and galleries, and several local museums offer a glimpse into the region's rich past. For more shopping and entertainment, the Chandler Fashion Center has almost 200 stores, as well as a 20-screen movie theater, and the upscale shops at the Chandler Pavilions surround an ice-rink.
Along with its many cultural attractions, Chandler is known for its great schools. The city is served by several public school districts, including Chandler Unified School District, Gilbert Public Schools, Kyrene School District, Mesa Unified School District and Tempe Union High School District. Chandler Unified School District has earned an "A" grade from the Arizona Department of Education for several years running, and many Chandler Unified, Gilbert, Kyrene and Mesa Unified schools have earned a rating of 10 -- the highest possible -- on GreatSchools.
Chandler is also home to multiple private schools and charter schools. For those seeking post-secondary education, local options include Chandler-Gilbert Community College, Western International University, and Northern Arizona University's Chandler-Gilbert Campus. Arizona State University's main campus is just a few miles away in nearby Tempe.
Along with great educational opportunities, Chandler offers a strong and growing economy. A recent article in the Arizona Business Journal forecasted steady job growth over the next few years, with significant increases in industries such as business services, health care, transportation, and education.
Chandler is home to many large corporate employers and is a center of the high-tech industry. Among the largest employers, computer chip manufacturer Intel employs more than 10,000 people in Chandler. Other large tech employers include Garmin, Ebay/Paypal, Verizon Wireless, Freescale Semi-Conductor, Marvell Technologies, Microchip Technology and Advanced Integration Technologies.
But Chandler is also a center for the banking industry; both Bank of America and Wells Fargo maintain corporate campuses in the city. Other major employers include the Chandler School District and the Chandler Regional Medical Center.
And when it comes to the Chandler real estate market, the news is good and getting better! The median sales price of homes for sale has risen steadily over the past few years, increasing by 27 percent from 2013 to 2014 alone. Today, the number of sales are steady; as the inventory level is increasing and the days on the market are increasing along with it, slowly turning our market into a buyers market.
