Cottonwood Palo Verde is one active adult community comprised of two country clubs operating under one HOA, with 36 holes of golf, restaurants, and an abundance of recreation and activities for homeowners and their guests. Cottonwood Palo Verde is comprised of 3,809 homes encompassing some 1120 acres. Residents can play the par 72 championship golf course at Cottonwood and the par 62 executive course at Palo Verde. The tennis club provides an opportunity for players of all skill levels to play on one of the seven tennis courts. Cottonwood PaloVerde amenities also include pickleball, racquetball, a state-of-the-art fitness activity center, and several pools (lap pool, children’s pool, and 3 swimming pools).

Palo Verde has two indoor racquetball courts, a community park with bocce ball courts, a nine-hole putting green, horseshoes, a basketball hoop, and a ramada. Walking paths surround the many beautiful lakes in both neighborhoods. Palo Verde has a fine dining restaurant and spacious bar lounge area, while Cottonwood offers a sports bar featuring casual fare. In addition to all of the above, there are dozens of classes, clubs, and organizations available to homeowners.

  • Built between 1979-1995, Cottonwood includes 2,736 traditional houses and townhomes. Cottonwood Country Club features the 18-hole private Cottonwood Golf Course designed by Greg Nash. The course measures 6,584 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 123, and a 71.1 USGA rating. The course features 5 sets of tees for different skill levels.

  • Palo Verde was the first gated community in Sun Lakes, built between 1983-1996 with 1,073 traditional houses. Palo Verde Country Club features the 18-hole private Palo Verde golf course.  The Palo Verde course measures 4,068 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 98 and a 59.9 USGA rating. The course features 3 sets of tees for different skill levels.

IronOaks at Sun Lakes  

The IronOaks community is located in the city of Chandler and Sun Lakes. Comprised of two interconnected neighborhoods - Ironwood and Oakwood - IronOaks is among the most desirable retirement destinations in the Valley. The community features the Ironwood and Oakwood Clubhouses, 45 holes of golf, fitness, tennis & pickleball, softball, pools, trails, and much more. The Ironwood Clubhouse and Restaurant offers a happy hour as well as family dining.

  • Built between 1987-2001, the gated Ironwood community includes 734 houses. Ironwood Country Club features the 18-hole semi-private Ironwood course designed by Forrest Richardson and Keith Foster. Ironwood measures 5,500 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 99 and a 64 USGA rating. The course features 3 sets of tees for different skill levels. Green fees, which include a cart, are some of the lowest in the area.    

  • Built between 1994-2006, Oakwood was the last and most upscale of all of the Sun Lakes communities, with 3,285 traditional houses and patio homes. Oakwood features the 18-hole,semi-private Oakwood golf course designed by noted architect Keith Foster. The Oakwood course measures 6508 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 135 and a 71.1 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels.

Sun Lakes #1 Country Club 

Built between 1972-2002, the original Sun Lakes Country Club includes 2,139 mobile homes and traditional houses surrounding an executive golf course. Only Sun Lakes #1 Country Club has mobile homes available. Sun Lakes #1 features the private Sun Lakes Par 60 executive course. The 18-hole "Sun Lakes" course features 3,811 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 60. The course rating is 55.1 and it has a slope rating of 99 on Bermuda grass.  

Surrounding Area 

Nearby Chandler offers exciting cultural and entertainment options, a vibrant downtown, great shopping and dining destinations, and plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities. Wild Horse Pass 

The AAA Four Diamond Awarded Gila River Hotels & Casinos -  Wild Horse Pass is located on the ancient Tribal lands of the Gila River Indian Community. Wild Horse Pass features dining, nightlife, and gaming. Highlighted by Arizona’s only Shula's Steak House, additional restaurants include Ling & Louie's Asian Bar & Grill, Fullhouse Café, and Spotlight Lounge. The Showroom at Wild Horse Pass is a 1400-seat concert theatre that attracts the biggest touring acts in the country from comedy and country to classical and contemporary music. The 100,000 square foot Casino at Wild Horse Pass includes over 1,000 slots and table games. A free shuttle provides transportation between Wild Horse Pass, Sheraton Grand at Wild Horse Pass, Whirlwind Golf Club, and Phoenix Premium Outlets mall.

Sun Lakes is conveniently located near several major routes: Interstate 10, Loop 202 (Santan Freeway), and Loop 101 (Price Freeway). Valley Metro operates a daily bus service with an extensive list of routes traveling throughout the Phoenix metro area. Several of the Sun Lakes routes also make connections to the METRO light rail traveling in Phoenix, Tempe, and Mesa. The nearest major airport is Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport located about 10 miles to the east in South Mesa. Sky Harbor International Airport is only about 30 minutes away, as is Old Town Scottsdale, Downtown Phoenix, Downtown Gilbert, and Downtown Tempe.
