Why Homebuyers Should Consider Living in Phoenix
Boasting year-round warm weather and sunshine, exciting cultural and entertainment options fabulous shopping and fine dining destinations, popular annual events (Waste Management Phoenix Open and Barret Jackson Collector Car Auction), an excellent school system, an abundance of scenic parks with miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, 4 major sports teams, Cactus League spring training baseball, and over 200 hundred golf courses all add up to an outstanding place to call home!
A thriving metropolitan city, Phoenix is the capital city of Arizona and the center of the Phoenix metro area. Home to over 1,721,504 people, the city is now the fifth-largest by population with a land area exceeding New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Phoenix is also growing faster than any other major city in the last decade. In terms of development, new apartment buildings and other commercial developments have transformed the downtown area, a major center of employment with many financial, legal, and other national and international corporations housed here.
The area is encompassed by Seventh Avenue on the west, Seventh Street on the east, the railroad tracks south of Jackson Street, and Interstate 10 on the north. A thriving business and entertainment district, Downtown Phoenix is home to indie restaurants, live music, professional sports, craft brews, cocktail culture, CityScape, and art galleries on Roosevelt Row, where the downtown art community congregates. Murals decorate the walls of the buildings, and colorful sculptures adorn the streets. Major arts and cultural institutions are also located in the Downtown area.
Other than the mountains in and around Phoenix, the city is generally flat, allowing the main streets to run on a precise grid with wide, open-spaced roadways. The area is split generally between its south, central, and northern parts, with locals referring to these areas as simply “South Phoenix” for example. Neighboring towns like Scottsdale and Mesa to the east and Glendale directly to the west of the city often get lumped into the area.

From end to end, there are currently 38 stations, including 11 park-and-ride stations. Use Valley Metro's trip planner to find the best route to your destination using light rail and busses (Metro Rail Maps and Schedules). Bicyclists may bring their bikes aboard the train.
Metro light rail trains depart stations at each end of the route every 12 minutes from about 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and every 20 minutes at other times. Trains start running at about 3:30 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends and holidays. The last full trip of the day on Monday through Thursday begins at 11 p.m., arriving at the opposite end of the line at about 12:25 a.m. early the next morning. On Friday nights and Saturday nights (Saturday and Sunday mornings) the last full trip is at 2 a.m., arriving at the opposite end of the line at 3:25 a.m.
