Although wedged between the Phoenix urban sprawl, the Salt River Native American Reservation, and the Tonto National Forest, the vibrant city of Scottsdale still has plenty of room for newcomers. Within the district, there are 16 elementary schools and three schools that offer grades K-8. There also are 6 middle school buildings and 5 high schools. Paradise Valley Unified School District is a large public school district that provides educational opportunities for those in Phoenix and a portion of Scottsdale. Within this district, there are 30 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 high schools. The district provides students with several different alternative programming options, including a S.T.E.M. program, an International Baccalaureate program, and a Digital Learning Center. Parents may also decide to send their children to one of the public charter schools within this community. There are about a dozen charter schools in Scottsdale, including the Scottsdale Country Day School that serves grades K-6 and the Foothills Academy College Preparatory School that serves grades 7-12.
