Why Do You Want to Live in Chandler, AZ? 

The question should actually be "why would you not want to live in Chandler?" Currently home to approximately 269,123 people, Chandler has grown in leaps and bounds over the past several decades - ranking among the fastest-growing municipalities in the country. Located less than 30 minutes southwest of Phoenix, Chandler offers year-round sunshine, a solid economy, a healthy job market, great schools, and a wide range of outdoor and cultural activities. Residents of Chandler enjoy a family-oriented, suburban-city vibe and most own their homes. With nearly 330 days of sunshine per year and outstanding community amenities, it's no wonder that Chandler has one of the hottest housing markets in Arizona. A diverse, cosmopolitan community, Chandler is perfect for families, young professionals, executives, and retirees alike.

Chandler Economy and Job market

There's definitely no shortage of high-paying jobs in Chandler. Known as the ‘Innovation and Tech Hub of the Southwest,' Chandler’s business environment and quality lifestyle have made it a destination of choice for industry leaders, startups, local businesses, and their families. Chandler's high-tech employment base attracts highly-educated and skilled employees, many of which make Chandler their permanent home. The area’s top industries include autonomous vehicles R&D; aviation and aerospace; high-tech manufacturing and development; technology and software; healthcare and bioscience; and business and financial services.  

The Price Corridor, Chandler’s largest employment corridor, is currently home to 15 Fortune 500 companies. The largest employer in Chandler is Intel Corp., with 2 campuses in the city. Intel recently announced that it was expanding its manufacturing capacity with plans for two new factories located at the company’s Chandler-Ocotillo campus. This build-out represents an investment of approximately $20 billion, which is expected to create over 3,000 permanent high-tech, high-wage jobs; over 3,000 construction jobs; and approximately 15,000 local long-term jobs in Chandler. “We are setting a course for a new era of innovation and product leadership at Intel,” said CEO Pat Gelsinger in a speech recently broadcast to the Chandler complex. "Hundreds of local companies stand to benefit from our announcement today," Gelsinger said, adding that planning and construction will start immediately. 

Other top employers in Chandler (listed in order by # of employees) include Bank of America, Chandler School District, Wells Fargo Ocotillo Corporate Campus, Chandler Regional Medical Center, eBay, Paypal, Verizon Wireless, City of Chandler, Microchip Technology, Freescale Semiconductor, Northrop Grumman. Bashas’ Distribution Center / Corp HQ, Education Management Corp. (EDMC), Avnet, and Rogers Corp., and many other great companies. As part of the larger Phoenix metro area, residents of Chandler can also easily commute to nearby cities  (Mesa, Tempe, and Phoenix) for work. Loop 202 can get you into downtown Phoenix and to the Sky Harbor International Airport within 25 minutes and Loop 101 makes the drive to Tempe/Scottsdale accessible.

Downtown Chandler

Chandler has a vibrant, walkable downtown brimming with activity, where you'll discover a variety of interesting shops, one-of-a-kind boutiques, galleries, restaurants, casual eateries, Chandler Center for the Arts, and Chandler city hall complex. The area is also home to popular events such as the monthly Art Walk held every third Friday evening of every month along with a year-round farmer’s market held every Saturday in Dr. A.J. Chandler Park West. Downtown Chandler is enhanced by its cultural attractions, museums, and public and private art galleries. The Chandler Center for the Arts boasts the Vision Art Gallery as well as a 1500-seat performing arts theater that hosts local ballets. It’s also home to the Chandler Symphony Orchestra.  Located about 2.7 miles from downtown is the Arizona Railway Museum which houses more than a dozen complete trains. You’ll feel like you’re taking a trip back 100 years in time while wandering the grounds of this free museum. 

Chandler Housing Market 

Chandler has many beautiful neighborhoods and communities featuring a wide array of residential choices. Buyers can choose from low-maintenance condos and townhomes, single-family homes with room for growing families, new construction homes, custom waterfront properties to luxurious homes on Chandler’s many golf courses. Most of Chandler is served by the A-rated Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) (grades K-12). Students living west of Loop 101 attend top-rated schools in the highly-regarded Kyrene and Tempe Union High School District. CUSD schools have been named ‘Arizona A+ Schools of Excellence’ or ‘U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence’ 86 times since 1983, the most of any district in Arizona. With test scores that exceed state and national averages, CUSD includes 11 of the top 100 highest-ranked schools in Arizona. Parents can choose from personalized learning experiences that meet the needs of their children including self-contained gifted programs (Chandler Academically Talented Students); traditional academies; honors classes and advanced placement courses; and the International Baccalaureate Program.

As part of Arizona School Choice, students can apply for admission to any public school of their choice, based on available classroom space. Post-secondary education in Chandler includes the two-year Chandler-Gilbert Community College located near the Chandler/Gilbert border, and International Baptist College.  Arizona State University is also located in nearby Tempe.  

Shopping & Dining

Chandler Fashion Center, the 2nd largest mall in Arizona, features over 180 retail shops. This premier shopping destination has four department stores: Macy’s, Sears, Dillard’s, and Nordstrom, many high-end brand stores like Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Michael Kors, and Sephora along with great restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. Chandler locals also enjoy shopping at The Shoppes at Casa Paloma, the nearby Phoenix Premium Outlets, and the many quaint shops and boutiques located in Chandler's historical downtown. Chandler’s exciting culinary scene reflects its cosmopolitan flair bringing together Asian cuisine and Pacific fusion, with Southern cooking and Tex-Mex classics. Some of the best restaurants in Chandler include Shula’s Steakhouse, CHoP Steakhouse, Kai Restaurant, Atlas Bistro, and Flemings Prime Steak House & Wine Bar along with many more great restaurants to choose from.

Parks & Recreation Facilities 

Known for its outstanding park system and recreational facilities, Chandler is committed to providing meaningful recreational activities for its community. Chandler has over 60 parks, from larger regional facilities to smaller neighborhood parks. Among the most notable include

  • Veterans Oasis Park and Environmental Center. With over 100 acres, this park is home to wetlands, desert habitats, hiking and biking trails, and picnic areas. It also features a self-guided Solar System Walk.
  • Tumbleweed Park. This park is the site of a 62,000 square-foot recreational facility with classes and activities for all ages. The park includes pavilions, play areas, and celebrates the agricultural heritage of the city.
  • Desert Breeze Park. You’ll enjoy a lake, splash pad, sports courts and fields, paths, and a playground.
  • Espee Park. This local park is the site of the Chandler Bike Park, a park exclusively for BMX bike riders.
  • San Tan Mountain Regional Park. Located south of Chandler, 10,000 acres of Sonoran Desert beauty is at your fingertips. Bike, hike, horseback ride, picnic, stargaze, stroll, and enjoy special programs and events.

Whether you are looking for tennis lessons for the entire family, free community events and festivals, youth sports, or classes for adults and seniors, Chandler has it all. The proximity to the Sonoran Desert offers adventures like climbing, hiking, and exploring regional wildlife. In addition, local biking and walking trails wind through many of the neighborhoods in Chandler.

Golf

For those who like to play golf, Chandler has some of the best golf clubs in the valley, including the stunning Ocotillo Golf Club and the historic San Marcos Golf Resort. Other top-rated courses in Chander include Ironwood Golf Club, Bear Creek Golf Complex, Springfield Golf Resort, Sunbird Golf Club, and Lone Tree Golf Club, with dozens of additional courses within easy driving distance.

Professional Sports

The Phoenix metropolitan area is a sports fan’s dream. Cheer on the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, the MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks, or the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes. WNBA fans can see the Phoenix Mercury and if indoor football is your thing, catch the Arena Football League’s Arizona Rattlers. Soccer fans support the United Soccer League’s Phoenix Rising FC. The area also hosts the Fiesta Bowl, the PGA’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, and NASCAR events. In March, baseball fans can catch some of their favorite stars at Cactus League Spring Training where 15 teams train and play.

Transportation & Travel 

Valley Metro operates a daily bus service with an extensive list of routes traveling throughout the  Phoenix metro area. Several of the Chandler routes make connections to the METRO light rail traveling in Phoenix, Tempe,  and Mesa. Main thoroughfares include Arizona Avenue, also known as State Route 87, which runs north-south through Chandler and connects to Mesa in the north and I-10 south of the city. Commonwealth Avenue, also known as State Route 202, runs east-west. Taking 202 west will connect you to I-10 and then either north to Phoenix or south to Tucson.

The Chandler Municipal Airport is a two-runway general aviation facility located in the heart of the city, south of Loop 202. The Stellar Airpark is a privately owned airport that is open to the public, located in western Chandler. The nearest commercial airport is Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport located about 10 miles to the east in South Mesa. For international and regional travel, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is about a 20-mile drive from downtown Chandler.
