The Gilbert Public Schools (officially known as Gilbert Unified School District #41) is a school district covering much of Gilbert, Arizona, as well as parts of Mesa and Chandler. Schools in Gilbert AZ have a district-wide enrollment of just over 39,000 students at 26 elementary schools, six junior high schools, and five high schools.
Four of the district’s seven high schools/learning academies earned a gold, silver or bronze medal from U.S. News and World Report’s “Best High School” rankings in 2015. Gilbert’s college preparatory school of choice, Gilbert Classical Academy, opened in August 2007. The high school ranks third within Arizona and tenth nationwide, in part because of the school’s 100 percent participation rate in Advanced Placement coursework and its all-honors level classes. Gilbert’s Global Academy for online learning opened in August 2011.

Gilbert Classical Academy Ranks #3 in Arizona and #10 in United States
Gilbert Classical Academy is a choice junior high and high school focused on “rigor, relevance and relationships.” The school embraces the belief that all students must be prepared for academic success with a learning environment that stretches students beyond their comfort zones and pushes them to grow as independent thinkers. Lessons are designed to be relevant to the experiences of the 21st century citizen, with an emphasis on inquiry, problem solving, and analysis. The school’s small student body fosters strong student-teacher relationships and community ties with a focus on appropriate civic and social connectedness.
In addition to Gilbert Classical Academy, Gilbert residents may also attend several other special academies. At the Gilbert Accelerated Foreign Language Academy, students meet grade-level standards in their native language and also develop a high level of academic competence in a foreign language, including skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The academy’s mission is to “inspire bilingual leaders by empowering biliterate scholars.”
Online Learning and Alternative Education Options
Gilbert Global Academy offers alternative online learning for high school students. The online courses are available to all students living in Arizona, including students currently enrolled in a school district as well as those attending a private school or those who are home-schooled. Students may enroll in one online course per nine-week block. Students may also choose to enroll full-time in the global academy and take two or more courses per nine-week block.
Elementary school students may attend the GPS Traditional Academy at Neely Elementary, known as Neely Traditional Academy. The program’s strong academic environment emphasizes a “back-to-basics” philosophy focused on the acquisition of basic skills through direct instruction. Canyon Valley School is the district’s alternative junior high and high school, designed to help students struggling with academic performance and behavioral issues achieve the same high standards as their peers. The school offers morning and day sessions with block scheduling and low class sizes. An on-site social worker and counselor provide individualized and group counseling for students, as needed. The school’s mission is to empower all students to “develop positive aspects of themselves in order to succeed in life.”
